At last at IIM Lucknow...
At Last here I am, inside the campus of IIM Lucknow. Though I have been here for the past one week, I somehow didn’t get time to blog. No, it wasn’t the pressure due to academics; it was just that the fachas, as the first year students are called here, were subjected to rigorous training to face the next 2 years in the campus by none other than our seniors. It was really an enjoyable experience...
About my batch... Its one of the biggest batches to have joined IIML with the total strength touching 300 and there are about 40 girls in our batch, a big improvement from last year when there were just 20 odd.80% of the batch are engineers and there are about 5-6 CAs and one Doctor. That’s about the diversity of the batch, if at all you can use that word :) There is a huge population of IIT junta, about 80 of them. And most people this year have come from one place, Delhi. I heard it happens every year.
We have about 5 sections of 60 people each with the people being from as 'Diverse' a back ground as possible. Especially IIML has made the seating arrangement for students in such a way that there is at least one non engineer in each row. The faculties we have got this time around are pretty good with each of them having a unique teaching style. Especially I have to tell about our Behavior in Organization (BIO) teacher Prof. Debashish Chatterjee. His teaching style is very unique indeed. He plays soft music in his class while teaching and the weightage he has proposed for this term are really radical-50% for Mid-Term and End-Term exams, 10% for Quizzes and a whopping 40% for something called a BIO-Blog. We are supposed to form a group and write our experiences in the style of a blog and are supposed to submit it at the end of the term.50% weightage was given to the Term exams only because IIML rules stipulate it. It was really innovative on his part to have given us such a nice assignment. We realized it when we had our first team meeting to discuss about the Blog. We got to know so many things about our team members and some of their experiences were truly amazing.
Now about MANAC (Management Accounting), the subject which sends shivers down the spine of many an 'Engineering to MBA' student. We have had about 3 lectures and I seem to like the subject. But lots of work needs to be done after class if you have to keep pace with the subject. Hopefully I would pass this subject with decent grades. The other subjects like Information Technology Management (ITM), Quantitative Analysis for Management (QAM) etc are quite comprehendible especially if you are from an engineering background.
Although I am just one week into college, I seem to be working a lot more than I ever did during my engineering days. Whether its my interest in the course or fear of failure, only time will tell.
